Modern Combat 5 Blackout is a first-person shooter for Windows.

With this game, there are plenty of big names in the first person shooter space. They usually have clever acronyms and are played by people of all ages, but they're mostly relegated to the consoles these days. While shooters are popular on the PC, the platform has the advantage of being home to some lesser-known shooters. One of these shooters - and one that's really worth playing - is Modern Combat 5. While it certainly cribs its name from a better-known series, it can stand on its own merits with relative ease.

Where this game is good, it's great. For a lower-tier title, it looks spectacular. You will feel like you're playing an AAA game every time you boot up the program, and you'll quickly forget about other titles. There's a great selection of objectives for each map, the multiplayer functionality is great, and the squad integration is top-notch. The controls, however, aren't quite as good as they need to be, and the requirement that players be online whenever they play really takes away some of the game's shine. This is a game caught on the precipice of being great, but that doesn't quite manage those last few steps.

Modern Combat 5 is a good game, but it's not quite great. It shines in many areas, but it has some notable failures that hold the game back. If you're looking to play a new shooter that's a little outside of what you've played before, this can be a great game for you. Remember, though, that this game still has a long way to go before it's ready for the big leagues.
